Aji Surya, an Indonesian diplomat launches "Vodka, Love and Flowers"
Jakarta Forum - Jakarta, Feb 12 (ANTARA) - Aji Surya, an Indonesian diplomat who became infected with the "wow" virus after he was posted in Russia, recounted his experiences in a book launched at Antara News Agency recently.In the book, titled "Vodka, Love and Flowers", Aji portrays the uniqueness of many things in Russia in ways guaranteed to amaze readers.
He describes the beautiful landscapes, the uniqueness of Russian culture and the life of its people which he had observed in the many places he had visited.
The graduate of Gontor Islamic Boarding School in East Java said many of the beautiful and unique things he had seen were similar to those found in Indonesia including the activities of Moslems in that country.
He said a lot of writers from other countries had written about Russia but they could not enter the Islamic community and therefore Vodka, Love and Flowers was unique because it also told about the religious activities of Moslems in that country.
The book would also lead its readers particularly Indonesian readers to know that country which had changed from a closed state into an open country with all its uniqueness and beauty, Aji said.
Aji who was also a former journalist from Tempo said he hoped the book could serve as a bridge for making the relationship between the two countries` communities closer in view of the their similarities in loving friendship and peace.
Aji had written the book with Khoirul Rosyadi, a lecturer of sociology at Trunojoyo University in Madura, East Java.
Khoirul also used to be a journalist in Yogyakarta and a teacher in Surabaya.
Two panelists at the launching of the book were Christin Victoria Marta MA from Romania who is now head of the post-graduate program (S3) of University of Padjadjaran and Jefry Alkatiri, a lecturer and researcher of the Departiment of History, Russian Studies Program, the Faculty of Culture of state University of Indonesia.
