"The export volume in the fishery sector increased significantly in 2009," the head of foreign trade affairs of the local trade and industry service, Achmad Habib, said here on Saturday.
He said the rise in the fresh fish exports in the year increased the value of fresh fish exports to more than US$14 million.
In 2008 fresh sea fish exports from the region only reached US$10.5 million. They went to a number of countries in Asia as well as Europe such as Singapore, Japan, Germany and also the US.
Achmad said the value and volume of seaweed exports from the region also rose in 2009.
In 2009 total seaweed exports from the region were recorded at 20, 241,733 tons rising from 12,946,276 tons in 2008.
The 2009 exports were valued at US$17.6 million up a little from US$16.7 million in 2009.
"The two export commodities from the fishery sector are main contributors to the total value of exports from the region after nickel, cacao and shrimp," he said.
