Ireland: Woman and child killed in Cork fire

A 25-year-old woman and a five-year-old child have died in a fire in Mahon in Cork city. The fire broke out at 3.15am.

It is understood that eight people were in the house on Nutley Avenue in Mahon.

Six people managed to escape, but the two who were trapped were taken to Cork University Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

A garda technical team will examine the scene later in the morning.
