VP receives Swedish house speaker
The nine-member Swedish parliamentary delegation was accompanied by Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Ewa Polano in the meeting.
While Boediono was accompanied by Deputy Chairperson of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Melani Leimena Suharli, Coordinating Minister for Political, Lagal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, his acting secretary Tirta Hidayat and Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs Dewi Fortuna Anwar.
Following the meeting, Dewi told the press that the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Sweden and Indonesia, especially in the economic field.
In the meeting, the Swedish legislators asked about a number of issues such as economic, democracy, intolerance and terrorism in Indonesia.
The Vice President responded that Indonesia is now in the learning process and continues the process of consolidation in democracy, which is on the right track.
Regarding economic, Boediono said Indonesia now has a blue print of economic development which applies two approaches, the regional and industrial approaches.
"The vice president asked Sweden to invest in Indonesia, particularly in infrastructure development," Dewi Fortuna Anwar.
The vice president also briefed the Swedish parliamentary delegation on the government`s continued efforts to deal with obstacles to the development of the country`s infrastructure facilities, she said.
Boediono also touched on the country`s economic potentials particularly with regard to human resources development. The abundant human resources would pose a problem if their quality was not improved, she said.
Therefore, the vice president called for close cooperation with other countries in improving the quality of human resources. "In the long run, the bottleneck will rest with human resources and that the cooperation must be directed towards developing the quality of human resources," she quoted the vice president as saying.
